Your Clover receipts show one combined fee line, and you or a guest may wonder what sits behind it. Owner rolls two separate charges into a single Clover service charge.
What's in the line
Owner fee. 5% of the order subtotal.
Card processing fee. Charged by Stripe at 2.9% of the grand total, not the subtotal, plus 30 cents per transaction.
Owner adds the two together and sends Clover one service charge, so the charge comes from Owner rather than from Clover. The label is built from whichever charges apply, so when one of them is $0 its name drops off. On a cash order the line reads just Service Fee.
Why the percentage can look high
The percentage printed on that line is worked out against your subtotal after discounts, not against your menu subtotal. On an order with a coupon that makes the percentage look higher than the fees really are. For example, $2.37 of fees on a $20 order prints as 11.85%.
ℹ️ Note: the printed percentage is a display figure. The two fees above are what you're actually charged.
