Understand your Owner plan and fees

What you pay Owner comes in three parts: your monthly subscription, the Owner fee on orders, and the card processing fee. You can see your own rates in Settings › Payments › Fees on your Owner Dashboard.

Your monthly subscription

Your subscription covers your Owner platform. The amount depends on your subscription type and how many locations you have.

To see what you pay each month, go to Settings › Billing › Invoices. On some accounts, this is under Payments › Invoices.

If you use Owner POS hardware, it's a one-time purchase. Owner doesn't charge monthly fees for hardware.

The Owner fee

The Owner fee is a percentage of each order's subtotal, after discounts and before tax and tip.

  • Online orders: depending on your subscription type, you can adjust who pays this fee. Your guests can pay it, or you and your guests can share it.

  • In-store orders: the Owner fee isn't charged on orders taken on your Owner POS.

Why is there an Owner fee?

The Owner fee helps fund the work that brings more orders to your restaurant:

  • SEO to help guests find you online

  • Marketing to bring more guests to your website

  • Platform improvements for a better ordering experience

  • Guest acquisition across digital channels

It keeps your subscription cost lower. Even with the Owner fee, you typically pay far less than the 15% to 30% commission that marketplaces charge.

The fee cap

The Owner fee stops growing once an order's subtotal reaches the maximum shown on your Fees page. Above that amount, the fee stays the same, even on bigger orders. The cap applies to both your share and your guest's share.

Change who pays the Owner fee

To change how the Owner fee is split between you and your guests, contact Owner support. What's possible depends on your subscription type.

The card processing fee

The card processing fee covers the cost of accepting card payments. You pay it on every card order, online and in-store. It's charged on the full amount the guest pays, after discounts.

The rate depends on how the card is used, not where the order came from:

  • Card-present: the card is tapped, dipped, or swiped on a card reader.

  • Card-not-present: the card is entered online, or typed in by your staff, for example for a phone order.

Offset the processing fee

You can't pass the processing fee to your guests. You can offset it in two ways:

  • Credit card surcharging: adds a small, capped fee to credit card orders, where state law allows. It isn't available in Canada. See How credit card surcharging works.

  • Menu price adjustment: raise your menu prices slightly to cover the fee. This works in every state. You can raise prices by a dollar amount or percentage with the Bulk Price Editor. See Update prices for multiple menu items.

Good to know

  • Tips: the fee is charged on the full amount, including any tip. So a tip slightly raises the fee, but you still keep 100% of the tip.

  • Refunds: if you refund a guest, the processing fee isn't returned.

See your rates

Your rates can differ from another restaurant's, so always check your own. Go to Settings › Payments › Fees to see them for each location:

  • Owner fees: your rate for Online orders and POS orders, and who pays it.

  • Processing fees: your Card-not-present processing fee and Card-present processing fee.
