What you can edit with an Otter integration

ℹ️ Applies to POS-synced menus connected through Otter

Your POS controls menu prices and ordering requirements. You can still change how the menu looks to guests in Owner.

What you cannot change in the menu editor

POS-controlled fields are locked, but supported guest-facing overrides remain editable. Coupons stay editable in Owner.

Make these changes in your POS:

  • Change item or option prices.

  • Add brand-new POS items or delete POS menu entries by hand. Contact Owner support for help adding choices or combining or splitting menu entries.

  • Make a required option group optional, or increase its allowed selections.

You cannot hide a required option group in Owner. Hide items, categories, or optional groups instead of deleting them.

Hide in Owner to keep an entry off the guest menu until you unhide it. Unavailable is controlled in the POS and ends when the POS marks it available again.

What you still set in Owner

These aren't in your POS, so you set them in Owner.

  • Category availability hours. Set the hours a category can be ordered.

  • Upsell categories. Mark a category as an upsell category.

  • Popular items. Mark the items that show as popular on your website.

  • Upsell items. Mark the items offered to guests at checkout.

  • Loyalty point redemption. Set how many points a guest needs to redeem an item for free.

Overrides that change what guests see

Overrides change your guest-facing menu without changing POS item names or prices.

  • Guest-facing names and descriptions. Rename items, categories, option groups, and options. Update item, category, and option descriptions where supported.

  • Photos. Add or replace guest-facing item and option photos.

  • Hide from guests. Hide items, categories, options, and optional option groups. Required option groups must stay visible.

  • Display order. Reorder categories, items, option groups, and options.

  • Alcohol and Taxable toggles on an item.

  • Menu type and Allow special instructions on a menu.

Restore an item’s option groups

  1. Open the item and click Restore from POS beside Option groups.

  2. Choose Only reset to POS order to keep other changes, or Restore all overrides to original POS settings to restore the original option groups.

  3. Click Save Item to apply the change.

A full restore can also affect other items that share the same groups. Names and prices stay unchanged.

⚠️ Manually using Sync with POS for Otter may erase changes made in Owner. Review the confirmation before continuing; erased changes cannot be recovered.
