Add an item to your Owner menu in Toast

With a Toast integration, Toast holds your menu and Owner reads it from there. So when you want a new item on your online ordering, you add it in Toast and it syncs across. This is how you do that yourself.

⚠️ Only work in the menu called Owner / Otter Menu (or Owner / Otter Catering Menu). That's the one Owner reads. An item added to any other Toast menu will never reach your online ordering.

Add the item

You copy an item that already exists elsewhere in Toast rather than building it from scratch, which keeps its pricing and options intact.

  1. Log in to Toast Home, click Menus, then Edit menus.

  2. Click Owner / Otter Menu.

  3. Click the group or category you want the item to sit in, so you can see the items already in it.

  4. Click the dropdown arrow next to Add, then click Copy Existing Items.

  5. Type the name of the item you want, click it, and confirm it's the right one. Check the Used in these groups detail if you have similar items with the same name.

  6. Click Done, then Save.

  7. The copied item will have (copy) at the end of its name. Edit the name to remove it, then click Save.

  8. You should see Menu group saved successfully. Click Publish Now.

Make the item visible online

This last step is the one people miss. Without it the item sits in the menu but never shows up for guests.

  1. Click into the item again.

  2. Scroll down to the Visible To section.

  3. Make sure Online ordering partners is selected, then save and publish.

✅ Changes take about 10 to 30 minutes to appear on your website after you publish. Check your live site before raising it with us.

Removing an item

⚠️ Toast has no delete option for menu items. To take something off your online ordering, open the item, scroll to Visible To, and switch Online ordering partners off. Then save and publish. Don't try to delete it, and don't remove it from the menu another way, because that can break your sync.
