With a Square integration, Square holds your menu and Owner reads it from there through Otter. So a new item goes into Square, and it comes across to your online ordering on its own.
⚠️ Add the item to the menu your Owner site uses. When your integration was set up, a copy of your menu was made for online ordering, usually called something like Owner Menu. An item added to a different Square menu won't reach your site. If you're not sure which one it is, ask your Owner contact.
Add the item
In your Square Dashboard, create the item the way you normally would, with its price and any options.
Add it to the menu your Owner site uses.
Save. The item syncs across to Owner on its own, so there's nothing to do in your Owner Dashboard.
Give the sync a few minutes, then check your live site.
🚨 Make the change in Square, never in Otter. Anything edited directly in Otter is wiped the next time your menu syncs from Square.
Keeping an item off your online menu
Some items belong in the restaurant but not online, like a staff meal or a dine-in only special. To keep one off your Owner site, tag it with the Hide from Otter custom attribute in Square.
ℹ️ This has to be done in Square, not in Otter or in Owner. It's the only way to exclude an item and have it stay excluded.
A note on sizes and variations
If your new item has variations in Square, such as small, medium and large, those come across to Owner as separate items rather than one item with a size picker. That's how the Square connection works and it isn't something that can be changed on your side.
If you'd rather guests saw one item with size options, build it in Square with the sizes as options on a single item instead of as variations.
