What happens when you switch to Owner Payments

Your restaurant is moving to Owner Payments. This article covers what changes for you, what to check before you switch, and what happens to your old payment account.

Did you get an email about this?

If you received an email asking you to update your payments account, it's genuinely from us. We're moving restaurants over in small groups, so you may hear about this before or after other restaurants you know.

What stays the same

  • Your bank account. Payouts keep going to the same place.

  • Your payout schedule, if it's already daily. Weekly and other schedules reset to daily. Let us know if you need a change.

  • Your processing rate and fees. These don't change.

  • How disputes are handled and reimbursed.

Before you switch: instant payouts and faster payments

Instant payouts and faster payments (T+1) aren't currently available on Owner.com Payments. Everything else stays the same. If you use either one to cover a shortfall or make payroll, plan ahead.

⚠️ If you rely on instant payouts or faster payments (T+1), contact us before you switch.

How to switch

Setting up Owner Payments lives in Settings, under Integrations, in your Owner dashboard.

1. Click Setup Owner Payments.

2. Click Complete setup.

3. Enter your business, representative, and bank details. Most of this is already filled in for you.

4. Review every field before you submit. Prefilled details aren't always current.

5. Submit. Verification usually takes two to five business days.

ℹ️ We can't look up your EIN for you. Your dashboard shows only the last four digits, so check your own business records if you need the full number.

We finish the switch outside your business hours so it doesn't interrupt service, and we'll confirm when it's done. You don't need to contact Stripe or cancel anything. There's nothing for you to do on their side, and nothing gets closed.

ℹ️ If you have more than one location and you own all of them, you complete setup for each one. If your locations have different owners, each owner completes their own.

You may see up to 3 extra payouts when you switch

Right now your sales batch into a payout at 5:00 PM ET, which lands in the middle of your sales day. On Owner.com Payments they batch at 12:00 AM your local time. The two schedules overlap during the switch, so a day of sales gets split across more payouts than usual.

Here's what you may see:

  • A payout from your old account for sales before 5:00 PM ET. This is your normal payout.

  • A second payout from your old account for sales after 5:00 PM ET. We activate your Owner.com Payments account early the next morning, so those sales still settle in the old account.

  • Up to 2 more payouts from Owner.com Payments once your account is active. How many you see depends on when your account is activated.

Every sale gets paid out, and this only happens once.

ℹ️ Payout notification emails from Stripe stop after the switch. You'll get payment alerts from Owner.com instead.

What happens to your old payment account

It stays open, and you shouldn't close it. Anything tied to an order taken before the switch keeps settling there, so you'll still sign in to it occasionally.

  • Disputes on old orders. These arrive in your old Stripe account, not your Owner.com Dashboard. Handle them there.

  • Refunds on old orders. Issue these from the Orders page in your dashboard. The money comes from whichever account took the original payment. If you get an error, contact us and we'll complete it for you.

  • Past payout history and transaction records. These stay in the old account.

  • Tax documents. You'll get a separate 1099-K for each account if you meet IRS thresholds.

⚠️ Do not close your old payment account. You will need it for disputes, refunds, and tax forms from before the switch.
