Requirements

  • Time clocking turned on

Open the report

The report is on the Reports page of your Owner Dashboard.

  1. In your Owner Dashboard, click Reports.

  2. Under Labor, select Cost of Labor. The page that opens is called Labor cost.

  3. Set your date range.

  4. Choose how to group the results, like Days.

What it shows

The top of the page shows three numbers:

  • Net Sales: your sales after discounts.

  • Total cost of labor: what your staff's paid hours cost.

  • Labor-to-Sales %: your labor cost as a share of net sales. For example, $2,000 in labor on $10,000 in sales is 20%.

Use the first dropdown to switch between two views:

  • Cost by date: a chart of labor cost next to net sales over time. The table shows Period, Total Hours, Total Cost, Net Sales, and Labor-To-Sales %.

  • Cost by job: labor cost for each job, like cooks or cashiers. Click a job in the table to see more.

How labor cost is worked out

For each shift, the report multiplies the paid hours worked by the hourly pay for the job the staff member clocked in under. Unpaid breaks don't count. Shifts that are still going count as an estimate until staff clock out, so today's number can change during the day.

Hourly pay comes from one of two places in Staff:

  • Default hourly pay on the job, which applies to everyone in that job.

  • Hourly rate override on a staff member's job, if one person is paid differently.

⚠️ Hourly pay is locked in when a shift starts. If you change someone's pay, only shifts after the change use the new rate. Past shifts keep the old rate.

Seeing $0?

If your report shows $0, find the case below that matches what you see.

  • 0 hours and $0: nobody clocked in during those dates. Turn on time clocking and have staff clock in and out on your tablet or POS.

  • Hours but $0 cost: staff are clocking in, but no hourly pay is set. Add a Default hourly pay to their job in Staff. Shifts worked before you add it stay at $0.
