Coupons let you run promotions, reward regulars, and bring in new orders on your online ordering site. You create and manage them in your Owner Dashboard under Marketing › Coupons.
Create a coupon
Your Dashboard comes with some coupons already set up, usually for automated marketing. Follow these steps to create a new one.
⚠️ If you have more than one location, choose the location on the left side of the Dashboard before you click Create Coupon. If you do not select a location first, the coupon is created at the brand level and is available at all locations.
Click Marketing in the left navigation.
Click Coupons.
Click Create Coupon at the top right.
If the same coupon seems to show at several locations, it's either one brand-level coupon or the same code created separately at each location.
ℹ️ Note: You can also create, edit, and turn off coupons in the Owner app. See Create and manage coupons in the Owner app.
Fill in the basics
Every coupon needs these four basic fields.
Name your coupon and set its dates
Enter a Coupon code, up to 20 characters. This is what guests type at checkout.
Enter a Description, up to 75 characters. It shows with the coupon code when the coupon appears on your menu.
Set a Start date and End date if you only want the coupon live for a set period, like 1 to 31 January. These are separate from Availability, which controls the days and times within that period.
Set the discount
Under Discount value, select Percentage, Fixed amount, or Free delivery.
Enter the amount. Free delivery has no amount to set and has its own section below.
To cap the most that can come off any one order, turn on Set maximum discount limit.
Choose what the discount applies to
By default, a coupon discounts the whole order. Use these four settings to narrow it down.
Set Applies to to Orders or Items or categories.
If you choose Items or categories, select which ones the coupon applies to from the dropdown that appears.
Turn on Required items or categories if a guest must have one of your selected items or categories in their cart to redeem the coupon.
Select the items or categories the guest needs from the dropdown that appears.
Turn on Excluded items or categories to stop the coupon from applying to certain items, such as catering. Excluded items are left out of both the discountable subtotal and the minimum spend check, so they earn no discount and don't help a guest reach the minimum. Categories you add later are included automatically, so there's nothing to keep updating.
Select the items or categories to exclude from the dropdown that appears.
Set Discounted items per redemption to control how many items in one order the coupon can apply to.
It's greyed out while Applies to is set to Orders.
It turns on automatically with a value of 1 as soon as you choose Items or categories. By default, only one eligible item is discounted unless you raise the number.
Turning it off removes the limit, so the discount applies to all eligible items in the order.
Additional settings
None of these are required. Set the ones your promotion needs.
Requires minimum spend: set an order subtotal a guest must reach to qualify.
Promote on your menu: show this coupon in the discounts area of your online menu.
Use a different name internally: call the coupon something other than the Coupon code on your Dashboard, tablet, and printed tickets.
Maximum use: the total number of times the coupon can be used across all your guests. Set to Unlimited unless you change it.
First order only: restrict the coupon to first-time guests. Only guests who have never ordered from you can see and redeem it.
Usage limit per customer: how often the same guest can use the coupon. Set to Only one time unless you change it.
Order types, channels, and availability
These three settings each have their own section below Additional settings.
Order types: Delivery and Pickup. Both are on for a new coupon, so turn one off if you only want the other.
Channels: where the coupon can be redeemed. App and Website always show and are on for a new coupon. POS shows if a location runs Owner POS, and Kiosk shows if a location has a kiosk. Both start off, so turn them on if you want the coupon to work there.
Availability: the days and hours guests can redeem the coupon. Every day starts on and set to Available all day. Open a day to set a start and end time, or turn the day off.
When everything is set, click Save at the bottom right. The same button saves a new coupon and changes to an existing one.
Free delivery coupons
Free delivery is its own discount type. It brings your guest's delivery fee down to $0 at checkout, and you fund the waived fee.
When you select it, the form adjusts. The coupon applies to Delivery orders only, and there's no discount amount to set.
Everything else works the same, so you can still set a minimum spend, required items, dates, usage limits, and channels. You can also promote a free delivery coupon in your email and text campaigns, like any other coupon.
What your guests see
At checkout, the delivery fee shows $0.00 with the coupon code next to it. The total drops, but the food subtotal and tax stay the same.
The receipt and order confirmation show the free-delivery line too.
It works on delivery orders only. On a pickup order, the code is rejected with a message that free delivery is for delivery orders.
If a guest switches from delivery to pickup, the coupon is removed. Switching back to delivery re-applies it.
If you already lower your delivery fee, only the remaining fee the guest would have paid is waived.
See how many times a coupon has been used
Your Coupon Usage report shows how many times each coupon has been redeemed, with charts you can filter by date.
Go to Reports in your Owner Dashboard.
Click Coupon Usage.
Change the date range at the top to show usage for a specific period.
