What does the KDS countdown timer mean?

Every ticket on your Kitchen Display System (KDS) shows a time in its header. What it shows depends on where the ticket is.

What the timer shows

  • On the Scheduled and Requested tabs, the ticket shows the expected time, for example "7:30 PM" today or "Tmw. 10:00 AM".

  • Once the ticket reaches Not started, In progress, or Ready, a live countdown starts, counting down to the order's expected ready time.

  • When the ready time passes, the timer turns red and counts up to show how long the order is overdue.

Why the timer keeps running after items are marked ready

The timer belongs to the whole ticket, not one prep station. Even if one station has finished its items, the countdown keeps going until every item across every station is done and the ticket is completed.

Dine-in orders

Dine-in tickets use the same countdown as pickup and online orders. Because dine-in orders have no promised pickup time, the timer counts to the order's estimated time and keeps running until the whole ticket is completed.
