Set up order alerts on your Owner tablet or POS

Choose which kinds of orders make your tablet or POS play a sound or show an alert. You set this per station in Alerts settings, so each tablet can be different.

What each order type covers

Option

What it covers

POS

In-store and phone orders your staff enter on any Owner tablet or POS.

Web

Orders guests place through your website.

Mobile

Orders guests place through your Guest App.

Kiosk

Orders placed at an in-store kiosk.

3rd Party

Orders from marketplace integrations like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub.

Default behavior

By default, every option is on except POS. This means:

  • Web, Mobile, Kiosk, and 3rd Party orders trigger alerts by default.

  • POS (in-store and phone) orders don't trigger alerts by default.

ℹ️ Note: This default works for most restaurants. Your staff already know about the orders they enter, so your other tablets don't need to ring for them.

How alerts work across tablets

The POS option has a built-in rule: a tablet never rings for orders it placed itself. So:

  • One tablet: turning POS on changes nothing, since the tablet won't ring for its own orders.

  • Multiple tablets: turning POS on means the kitchen tablet rings when the front register enters an order, and the other way around.

Turn alerts on or off

  1. Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top left.

  2. Go to Settings › Station › Alerts.

  3. Under Notify for orders from, turn each order type on or off.

  4. Tap Close. Your changes save as soon as you make them.

Play sound for scheduled orders when placed

This is a separate toggle under Alerts, below Play sound for new orders. You only see it when Play sound for new orders is on. When it's on, scheduled orders (including catering) ring as soon as they enter the tablet's seven-day window, instead of only when prep time starts. It's off by default and set per station, like your other alert settings.

ℹ️ Note: This toggle has the same seven-day limit as printing. Orders scheduled more than seven days ahead ring once they're within seven days of prep. Orders placed inside that window ring right away.

If a catering order didn't ring when it came in, check this toggle. With it off (the default), scheduled and catering orders only ring at prep time.

FAQ

Why isn't my kitchen tablet ringing for in-store orders?

On the kitchen tablet, go to Settings › Station › Alerts and turn on POS. Make sure Play sound for new orders is on and the tablet's volume is up. To test, enter an order on a different tablet, since a tablet never rings for its own orders.

Why isn't my tablet ringing for online orders?

Go to Settings › Station › Alerts and make sure Web is turned on.

Why does my tablet ring for every order now?

POS is probably turned on. That makes the tablet ring for orders entered on your other tablets. Turn it off if you only want alerts for outside orders.

Can I get alerts for DoorDash orders only?

Turn off every option except 3rd Party. This covers all marketplace orders, so Uber Eats and Grubhub orders ring too.
