A 1099-K is an IRS information return that reports gross payment card and third-party network transactions. If you meet the eligibility requirements, you'll get one that summarizes all gross payment volume processed through your account during the tax year.
When you'll get your 1099-K
Your 1099-K is available each January, in your dashboard and by mail.
Your form will be available by January 31 each year.
Forms usually appear in your dashboard in early to mid January.
A paper copy is also mailed to the address on file.
ℹ️ Note: Your 1099-K reports gross volume only. It does not account for refunds, chargebacks, or fees.
Eligibility requirements
You'll get a 1099-K only if you meet all three of these requirements:
Your account is based in the United States, or it's a non-US account for a US taxpayer. You don't need to be a US citizen.
More than $20,000 USD in total gross volume.
More than 200 charges.
If you don't meet the threshold
If you don't get a 1099-K but still need your payment data for reporting, how you get it depends on your payment setup.
Owner Payments: You don't have a Stripe login. Use Owner reporting to find your gross volume.
Stripe Standard: If you need to report deductions, you can export the same data by following these steps from Stripe.
If your 1099-K amounts don't look right
Before you assume there's an error, check these three things. The numbers are often correct once the right accounting filters are applied.
Check your settlement dates
Your 1099-K is based on when funds settled in your account, not when the order was placed. If you took payments in December that didn't settle until January, they'll appear on next year's 1099-K, not this one.
Check that you're looking at gross volume
Your 1099-K reports your gross sales, before fees, refunds, and chargebacks are deducted. If your own records show net amounts, they'll look different. Make sure you're comparing gross to gross.
Check for duplicate accounts
If you moved from Stripe Standard to Owner Payments partway through the year, you may have two separate accounts that each reported part of your volume. Make sure you look at both when you add up your total.
If the amounts still don't match, contact Owner support.
