Mark an item as available or unavailable

Each menu item has an Available setting that controls whether guests can order it, including a snooze option that brings it back automatically. You can set it from the Owner Dashboard, the Owner App, or the Owner Tablet.

Sometimes you need to mark a menu item as unavailable, usually because you've run out of stock. This is commonly called 86'ing an item. Availability is set with the Available dropdown, which has three options:

  • Available: guests can see and order the item.

  • Unavailable until tomorrow: hides the item now and turns it back on automatically at your next opening time. Use this when you sell out during service.

  • Unavailable: hides the item until you turn it back on yourself.

You can set this from the Owner Dashboard, the Owner App, or the Owner Tablet. The same Available dropdown also appears on categories, option groups, and options, so you can hide any of them the same way.

⚠️ On an Otter- or Clover-synced menu, the Available value is shown as read-only text instead of a dropdown, and the item, category, or option group gets a Hide from guest menu toggle in its place. Use that toggle to hide it from Owner's guest menu, or 86 it in your POS to change real availability.

In the Owner Dashboard

  1. Click Menu in the left-hand navigation.

  2. Click the Items tab at the top of the page.

  3. Find the menu item you want to change.

  4. On the right side of the item's row, open the Available dropdown and choose Unavailable or Unavailable until tomorrow.

In the Owner App

  1. Tap the Menu tab at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Find and tap the menu category your item is in (for example, Tacos).

  3. Tap the item you want to change (for example, Crispy Cauliflower Tacos).

  4. Open the Available dropdown and choose Unavailable or Unavailable until tomorrow.

  5. Tap Save in the top-right corner.

On the Owner Tablet or Owner POS

  1. Tap Menu in the left-hand navigation.

  2. Find and tap the menu category your item is in (for example, Tacos).

  3. Find the item you want to change and open its Available dropdown.

  4. Choose Unavailable or Unavailable until tomorrow. Changes save automatically.
