An option group has a display name that guests see, and it can also have a separate internal name that only your staff see on the Dashboard, tablet, and kitchen tickets. You can change either name, and turn the group on or off for guests.
ℹ️ Note: Options and option groups are also known as modifiers and modifier groups. You may still see "modifier" on some screens or in older help content.
Change the display name or availability
The display name is what guests see when they customize an item. You can change it, and turn the whole group on or off for guests.
In the Owner Dashboard
In the left-hand navigation, click Menu.
Click the Option Groups tab at the top of the page.
Click the option group you want to edit.
To rename it, click the option group's name at the top of the screen and type the new name.
To turn it on or off for guests, scroll to the bottom and use the Available dropdown.
Click Save at the top.
In the Owner App
Go to Menu in the app.
Tap the dropdown arrow and choose the menu you want to work with.
Tap the category that includes the item with the option group you want to edit.
Tap the item that contains the option group.
Tap the option group you want to edit.
Tap Edit in the top-right corner.
To rename it, tap the option group's name at the top of the screen and type the new name.
To turn it on or off for guests, use the Available toggle just below the name.
Tap Save in the top-right corner.
⚠️ On Clover (with menu sync) and Otter menus, the Available toggle is locked and shows "Managed in your POS," so you change availability in your POS instead.
Set a separate internal name
An internal name lets your staff see a different name from your guests. Guests keep seeing the display name on your website, while staff see the internal name on the Dashboard, tablet, and kitchen tickets. It's useful for multilingual kitchens or shorter kitchen labels.
In the Owner Dashboard
In the left-hand navigation, click Menu.
Click the Option Groups tab at the top of the page.
Click the option group you want to edit.
Scroll down to More Settings and set Use a different name internally to Yes.
Enter the name you want staff to see on the Dashboard, tablet, and kitchen tickets.
Click Save at the top.
⚠️ You can set a separate internal name only for option groups that are not synced from a POS. On Clover (menu sync) and Otter option groups, this option is not available.
Tap the Internal name row, choose Yes, and type the internal name.
Tap Done.
Tap Save in the top-right corner.
