How prep times work with a Toast integration

Owner works out the prep time for each order and sends it to Toast, so your tickets print at the right moment for your kitchen. You manage all of it in Owner, not in Toast.

What Owner sends to Toast

Owner sends the prep time with each order, and that overrides Toast's own default prep time for Owner orders.

These four settings all reach Toast:

  • Default prep time. Your standard prep time.

  • Large order extra time. Added automatically to big orders.

  • Busy mode. Extra time while your kitchen is marked busy.

  • Kitchen overrides. Scheduled changes for particular days and time windows.

Large orders print earlier

When an order crosses your Large Order Threshold, by item count or by amount, Owner adds your extra time automatically and the ticket prints earlier. That gives your kitchen the full window to make it. This works for both ASAP and scheduled orders.

Set your threshold and extra time in Owner under Settings › Prep time. There's nothing to set up in Toast.

What doesn't travel back

Toast's own default prep time still applies to orders that don't come from Owner. It has no effect on your Owner orders.

⚠️ Changing the prep time on an order in the Toast KDS does not reach Owner, and your guest will not see that change.
