How does the Owner Loyalty Program work?

Your Owner Loyalty Program rewards your guests with points on their orders, which they can redeem for free items. You turn it on from your Owner Dashboard.

Where guests see your rewards program

Guests see the program as Rewards, under your restaurant's name. They're invited to join in three places:

  • On the home page of your website, in the rewards section. It shows wording like "Join our rewards program, earn points every time you order online and redeem your points for free food!" and a Join now button.

  • When they sign in.

  • When they place an order.

Once a guest has joined, they sign in and open Rewards to see their points balance.

How guests earn points

New guests get 100 bonus points when they join your VIP mailing list or place their first order. After that, guests earn 10 points for every $1 spent. The rate rises to 11, 12, and 13 points per $1 once a guest's lifetime points pass 1,000, 4,000, and 10,000. This rate is set automatically and can't be adjusted.

Points are based on the order subtotal after any discount, rounded to the nearest dollar. Delivery fees, tax, and tip don't earn points. For example, a $30 subtotal with a $10 coupon earns 200 points. Catering orders don't earn points.

⚠️ Points expire six months after they're earned. When a guest redeems, the oldest points are used first.

Earn points in-store on the Owner POS

Guests can also earn points when they pay in-store on the Owner POS. At checkout, the guest enters their phone number on the customer-facing tablet, or taps I don't want my points. Points from that purchase are added to their account. The guest also gets a text to download your app to manage their points.

Where guests redeem points

Guests can redeem points in three places:

  • In your restaurant's mobile app, when ordering online.

  • On your online ordering website, when ordering online.

  • In-store at the Owner POS, on the customer-facing tablet at checkout.

⚠️ Items priced above $30 aren't redeemable by default. To make one redeemable, open the item in your Menu section and choose a value under Points to Redeem.

Use points across your locations

If you have more than one location, each guest has one points balance that covers all of them. Points a guest earns at one location can be redeemed at any of your other locations. This works the same way online and in-store on the Owner POS.

ℹ️ Note: Points don't pool across different brands. If a guest orders from two separate brands, they'll have a separate points balance with each one.

How default point values are set

When your menu syncs or you add an item, Owner sets a redemption value automatically, at about 10x the item's price. This means a guest spends roughly 10x an item's price to earn enough points to redeem it for free. Items with a required priced option (like a Build Your Own bowl) use their lowest orderable price.

Turn the loyalty program on

  1. In your Owner Dashboard, go to Settings › Brand details.

  2. Under Features, turn on Rewards.

Change the points needed to redeem an item

You can change this anywhere you edit your menu, in the Menu section of your Owner Dashboard, the Owner app, or your Owner POS or tablet.

  1. Open the item you want to change.

  2. Under Points to Redeem, choose a value, or mark the item not redeemable.

✅ Tip: You can also see your rewards by point tier and change an item's points on the Loyalty page. Find it under Marketing in your Owner Dashboard or under More in the Owner App. See Manage your rewards on the Loyalty page.

You can make any item non-redeemable here, but you can't limit redemption to certain days. The loyalty program runs every day you're open.

⚠️ If you change an item's price, its redemption value doesn't update automatically. Adjust it manually if you want it to match.

Import an existing loyalty program

If you already run a loyalty program, Owner can bring your guests' point balances over. You can't do this from your Dashboard. Ask your launch specialist, or Owner support if you're already live, and they'll arrange the import for you. Point balances aren't part of the standard guest import, so a points column in a CSV you upload yourself won't bring them over.

The Owner loyalty program doesn't sync with external systems.

Three things have to be in place:

  1. Your guest list, imported first. Points are added to guests who already exist in your Dashboard, so the guest list has to go in before the balances.

  2. A CSV with two columns: phone number and points balance. Any previous loyalty system will work, as long as it can export those two things.

  3. A phone number for every guest. Phone number is the only way a balance is matched to a guest, so a guest without one on their profile can't receive their points.

⚠️ Agree how your old points convert before the import runs. Owner's rate is 10 points for every $1 at the base tier, and it can't be changed for your brand. If your old program earned 1 point per $1, your balances are multiplied by 10 so your guests keep the same value. Your launch specialist works this out with you.
