ℹ️ What you see depends on your device. The Owner POS has a card reader, a cash drawer, and a guest-facing tablet. The Owner Tablet has none of these, so you take card payments with Card entry (manual), and no drawer opens for cash. Sections marked Owner POS only don't apply to the Owner Tablet.
Payment methods
The payment screen shows up to five tabs:
Card: an in-person card on your connected reader (tap, insert, or swipe).
Cash: cash on hand. On the Owner POS, the screen shows the change due and the cash drawer opens.
Card entry: type the card details in by hand, for when the reader is unavailable or the guest is paying over the phone.
Gift card: redeem an Owner gift card.
Pay later: save the order to pay later (covered below).
Finish the entry for the tab you chose, then tap Pay.
ℹ️ Cash isn't processed through Stripe, so it won't appear in your Stripe payout. It still shows in your Owner sales.
Split a payment across cards or cash
Split one order into multiple payments when guests want to pay across several cards, mix card and cash, or split a check evenly.
On the payment screen, tap Actions, then Split.
Pick a preset (2x, 3x, 4x, for equal splits) or type a custom amount, then tap Done. Presets show only on the first split.
Tap the new split and choose a method: Card, Card entry, or Cash. Process it.
Tap the next split (or Next Payment) and repeat until the balance is paid.
Tap New sale to start the next order.
⚠️ Add splits before you take any payment. Once a split is paid, the Actions menu disappears, and a paid split can't be removed without a refund.
To remove an unpaid split, tap it, then tap Actions > Delete split.
Add a tip
To add a tip before charging the guest (handy on phone orders), tap Actions on the payment screen, then Add tip. Choose a preset percentage or type a custom amount, then tap Done. To change it later, use Edit tip.
ℹ️ On the Owner POS, guests choose a tip on the guest-facing tablet at in-store checkout, so you don't add it for them.
To see tip totals, go to Reports > Tips.
Print tip slips with paper tipping
ℹ️ Owner POS only
Paper tipping prints a tip slip so guests can write in a tip and sign. Use it when guests don't tip on a screen, like when you bring the check to the table or take a card over the phone.
Go to Settings › Station › Printing.
Under Paper Tipping, turn on Print tip selection checkboxes on receipts.
Paper tipping is set per station. Turn it on at each station that should print tip slips.
How tip slips work
When you take a card payment without a tip, the card is held and 2 slips print with an Add a Tip section: one labeled MERCHANT COPY for your records and one labeled GUEST COPY. The guest writes in a tip and signs your copy.
Slips don't print for cash, gift card, or 3rd party delivery orders.
If the guest picks a tip on the guest-facing tablet, slips don't print.
If the guest taps No tip on the guest-facing tablet, slips still print.
Slips print even if receipt auto-print is turned off. If you reprint the receipt from Orders before the tip is added, the slip prints again.
Add the tip from the slip
From the side menu, tap Orders.
Tap Filter, choose Needs tip under Payment, then tap Apply.
Tap the order. On the Add tip card, tap Enter tip.
Choose the tip from the slip or type the amount, then tap Confirm tip.
⚠️ Enter tips before the end of the night. Held cards are charged around 4 AM your local time. If a tip is not entered by then, the card is charged without it, and the tip cannot be added later.
Save an order with Pay later
Use Pay later to save an order now and take payment later, for example a phone order paid at pickup.
On the payment screen, tap the Pay later tab.
Tap Add to unpaid orders.
Tap New sale to move on to the next order.
Pay for a saved order
On the Checkout screen, tap Unpaid orders: N in the top bar.
Tap the order to load it into Checkout.
Tap Checkout, choose a payment method, and tap Pay.
ℹ️ Pay later isn't available after you add a split or on 3rd party delivery orders.
If you use table service
ℹ️ Owner POS only
When table service is turned on, you don't need Pay later. Tap Send or Stay to send the order to the kitchen. It stays unpaid until you take payment.
When the guest is ready to pay, tap Open orders: N at the top of Checkout.
Tap the order to open it.
Tap Checkout, choose a payment method, and tap Pay.
You can also find unpaid orders in Orders: tap Filter, choose Unpaid under Payment, tap the order, then tap Actions › Open in Checkout.
Orders started from a table stay open on their table. Open them again by tapping the table in Tables.
