Guests can use a digital or physical gift card online at checkout, or you can charge it in person on your Owner tablet or POS. If you ring up orders on the Owner POS, charge the card at checkout, and if you use another POS or your tablet only shows orders, use the Gift cards screen.
Requirements
Gift cards turned on. See Gift cards overview.
Online
Guests enter their gift card code at checkout, and the balance is applied to the order. The order is created automatically, so there's nothing for your staff to do.
At checkout on your Owner POS
Use these steps when you ring up the order on your Owner POS.
At checkout, select Gift Card as the payment method.
Enter the 16-digit gift card number. The balance appears.
If the balance covers the order, tap Pay. The receipt shows the card's new balance.
ℹ️ Note: If you see Scan QR code, you can scan the card instead of typing the number.
If the balance is less than the total
An Insufficient gift card balance message appears as soon as you look up the card.
Open the actions menu (...).
Tap Split. The gift card amount fills in with the card's balance.
Choose another payment method, like card or cash, for the rest.
Tap Pay for each payment.
✅ Tip: You can use more than one gift card. Add each one as its own split payment.
On the Gift cards screen
Use this on any Owner tablet, including when you ring up orders on another POS. It charges the card without building an order.
Tap Gift cards in the menu.
Enter the 16-digit gift card number.
Enter the amount.
Take payment.
⚠️ This does not create an order. If you need the order in your own POS, void it there or mark it as paid by gift card.
From your Owner Dashboard
Your Owner Dashboard doesn't have a charge button. To take money off a card from your Dashboard, reduce its balance. See Adjust a gift card balance.
On the receipt
The receipt shows two lines for each gift card used.
Gift Card Applied: the amount charged to each card.
Gift Card New Balance: what's left on each card.
Voids and cancellations
If an order is voided or cancelled after a gift card was charged, the money goes back onto the card automatically.
