Fraud protection is built into every card payment taken on your Owner website, guest app, and POS. It runs automatically through Stripe, so there's nothing for you to set up or manage.
How fraudulent payments get blocked
Every card payment is checked before it's approved. Three things happen automatically:
Risk scoring on every payment. Stripe uses machine learning to score each payment for fraud risk. High-risk payments are blocked before they ever reach your orders.
3D Secure card authentication. Riskier payments ask the guest to confirm their identity with their own bank before the payment goes through.
Card testing detection. If someone runs many small charges with different card numbers to test stolen cards, that pattern gets caught and stopped.
ℹ️ Note: These checks are managed by Owner together with Stripe and tuned for restaurants. You can't see or change the settings, and you don't need to.
Why 3D Secure matters for you
When a payment goes through 3D Secure, it's covered by liability shift. If the cardholder later disputes that payment as fraudulent, the cost moves to the card issuer instead of you.
If a fraudulent payment still gets through
No fraud check catches everything. If a guest disputes a payment with their bank, Owner covers almost all disputes for you, including the $15 Stripe dispute fee. Contact Owner support with the dispute and we'll take care of the reimbursement.
⚠️ If you choose to fight a dispute by submitting your own evidence, we wait for the bank's decision before reimbursing. If the bank sides with the guest, contact us and we'll cover it then.
If your payouts are paused during a review
If our monitoring sees a fraud pattern on your account, we may hold your payouts for a short time while we check it. Your legitimate money stays safe. Most reviews finish within 24 hours, and we'll contact you if we need anything from you.
What to do if you spot something suspicious
Contact Owner support right away if you notice any of these:
Many small charges you don't recognize, often overnight
A change to your bank details or your password that you didn't make
Verification codes arriving that you didn't request
An email asking for your login, your password, or your full account number
Don't change your bank details until we've reviewed the account with you.
ℹ️ Note: Owner only emails you about payments from [email protected]. We never ask for your password or your full account number by email. Real verification requests show up as a banner in your dashboard, not by email alone.
