Orders from your Owner website go straight into your Clover POS and print on your Clover setup, so you don't take them on an Owner tablet. There are two Clover setups, and the difference is where you keep your menu up to date.
Which setup do you have?
Go to the Menu page in your Owner Dashboard. If you see a Sync with POS button, your menu syncs from Clover. If that button isn't there, you're on the older setup, and you update your menu in both places.
Your menu syncs from Clover
Your Clover inventory is the source of truth. Update an item in Clover and the change reaches your Owner menu on its own, and an item you mark unavailable comes off your online menu in about 10 seconds.
Orders go into Clover. Orders from your Owner website are sent straight into Clover and print on your Clover setup.
Your menu syncs. Changes you make to your Clover inventory reach your Owner menu without you touching the Owner Dashboard.
Sales show in Clover reporting. Owner orders appear in your Clover reports, including item sales.
✅ Tip: keep the Owner + Clover Integration Guide handy. It's a one-page summary of which settings you manage in Clover and which you manage in Owner.
Where you do what
Add items and change prices in Clover. In Owner, you can change how your menu looks to guests.
What you want to do | Where you do it |
Add or delete POS items and options; change their prices | Clover |
Add or change guest-facing item and option photos | Owner or Clover |
Change guest-facing names and descriptions | Owner |
Mark an item unavailable (86) | Clover |
Printers and printer labels | Clover |
Menu and category availability hours | Owner |
The order your categories appear in | Owner |
Reorder items, option groups, and options; hide items or optional groups | Owner |
Category descriptions | Owner |
Upsell categories, popular and upsell items | Owner |
Allow special instructions | Owner |
Calorie counts | Owner |
Sales tax on items and options | Owner |
Preselect options | Owner |
Change an option group’s minimum or maximum selections | Clover |
Loyalty points needed to redeem an item | Owner |
You cannot hide a required option group or make it optional in Owner. Change those requirements in Clover.
Hiding in Owner lasts until you unhide the item. Marking it unavailable in Clover lasts until Clover marks it available again.
Why an item might not show on your menu
Clover holds an inventory rather than menus, so your menus themselves are built in Owner. You add your Clover categories to a menu there.
An item only reaches Owner when all three of these are true:
It sits in at least one category.
It has a set price, not a price by weight or unit.
It carries the Owner.com printer label. On older Clover versions it's set to Show online instead.
A category only reaches Owner if it holds at least one item that qualifies. Options show up when they're set to Show online and belong to an item that's already on your menu.
⚠️ If your Clover account uses the Owner.com printer label at all, then only labelled items sync and the Show online setting is ignored for items.
You update your menu in both places
On the older setup only orders travel between the two systems. A menu change you make in Clover doesn't reach Owner, so you need to make the same change in both places.
⚠️ The item's internal name in Owner must match the item name in Clover exactly. If the names do not match, orders will not print correctly.
Common questions
If I refund an order or add a charge in Owner, does Clover update too?
Yes, on both setups. A refund sets the Clover order to paymentState REFUNDED with the total reduced by the refund amount. An additional charge sets it to paymentState CREDITED with the new total. Either way, the comment you entered in Owner is written to the Clover order note.
If the update to Clover fails, Owner still records the refund or charge on its side, so the two can drift apart. Check Clover if the amounts don't match.
Can orders print to more than one printer?
Can orders print to more than one printer?
Yes. Orders print according to your printing setup in Clover. You can set up printer profiles there, such as Bar or Kitchen, and attach printer labels to individual items. This is done in Clover, not in Owner.
How do I re-sync my Clover menu to Owner?
Your Clover menu syncs to Owner automatically whenever you update it in Clover. To pull your latest Clover menu right away, go to the Menu page in your Owner Dashboard and click Sync with POS.
ℹ️ Note: the Sync with POS button only appears on the newer setup.
ℹ️ Note: Otter also offers a Clover integration. It works differently from the one described here.
