How your Owner POS works when your internet goes down

Your Owner POS keeps taking orders and payments when your internet goes down. There's nothing to turn on.

ℹ️ Requires Owner POS. Kiosks aren't covered, so a kiosk can't take orders while your internet is down.

What keeps working when your internet is down

Your team can keep serving guests. This runs on POS Hub, which works quietly in the background on one of your tablets, so there's nothing to turn on and nothing to do differently. Everything syncs back up once you're online again.

These all keep working with no internet:

  • Taking orders

  • Your menu, prices, and taxes

  • Cash payments

  • Card payments through the reader

  • Tips, splitting a check, and paying later

  • Discounts

  • Loyalty redemption

  • Table numbers

  • Voids and refunds

  • Your orders screen

  • Kitchen tickets and printing

  • Your cash drawer

These need an internet connection:

  • Signing in

  • Typing a card number by hand

  • Gift cards

  • Reports

  • Clocking in and out

  • Looking up a guest

  • Delivery quotes

  • Changing your settings

Signing in needs an internet connection

Anyone already signed in keeps working as normal. Anyone who isn't signed in has to wait until you're back online, so it's worth thinking about before a shift change.

Card payments during an outage

Card payments through the reader still go through, and your guest gets their receipt as normal. We can't charge the card until you're back online, so there's a small chance a card declines after your guest has left. Your router's cellular backup usually keeps you connected, so this is rare.

Why your order numbers look different

Orders you take in store or over the phone start at 2001 each day. Online orders still start at 1. Some restaurants see numbers in the 3000s, which is also normal. Your orders are not affected.
