Add menu photos with a Square integration

Your Square menu syncs to Owner, and that includes your item photos. Add a photo in Square and it reaches your Owner menu on the next sync. Two things are worth knowing before you start:

  1. A photo you added in your Owner Dashboard takes priority. If an item already has a Dashboard photo, a photo you add in Square won't replace it on your website. To let the Square photo show, select Restore from POS on that item's photo first.

  2. The sync never deletes a photo. If an item has a photo in your Owner Dashboard and no photo in Square, the Dashboard photo stays where it is.

ℹ️ Note: add your photos in Square. That keeps them consistent everywhere guests see your menu, and it avoids the priority rule above.

How to add photos in Square

From the Square Dashboard (recommended)

Log in to your Square Dashboard at squareup.com/dashboard.

Go to Items > Item Library.

Select the item you want to add a photo to.

Click the image upload area and upload the photo.

Click Save. The photo reaches your Owner menu on the next menu sync.

From the Square POS app

Open the Square POS app on your device.

Go to ≡ More > Items.

Select the item you want to update.

Tap the image area and upload or take a photo.

Tap Save. The photo reaches your Owner menu on the next menu sync.

If a photo isn't showing

If a photo you added in Square isn't showing on your website, work through these in order:

  1. Check whether that item already has a photo in your Owner Dashboard. A Dashboard photo takes priority, so select Restore from POS on that photo and the Square photo will show.

  2. Give it until the next menu sync, or ask us to resync your menu from Square.

If it still isn't showing after a resync, contact support and we'll look into it.
