How do I use the Expo station on Owner POS?

Learn how to read and manage order tickets on the Expo station so your expeditor can coordinate kitchen prep and notify guests when their order is ready.

⚠️ Before you begin: Your Expo station must be set up and your tablet signed in before you can manage orders. See How do I set up my kitchen display stations for Owner POS? if you have not done this yet.

What is the Expo station?

The Expo station is the command center for your kitchen. Your expeditor uses it to monitor all active orders, track when items are ready across your prep stations, and notify guests when their order is complete.

Understanding your tabs

Orders are organized across tabs based on their current status:

1. Scheduled.

Orders placed in advance for a future time. These appear here until they enter the active prep window.

2. Not Started.

Orders that have arrived but have not been claimed yet. This tab only appears at locations where auto-claim is turned off.

3. In Progress (default view).

Orders currently being prepared.

4. Completed.

Orders finished within the last 5 hours.

Managing orders during service

How you manage orders depends on whether your location has Prep stations.

If your location has Prep stations

  1. When an order comes in, it appears automatically on the In Progress tab at your Expo station and at the relevant Prep stations at the same time.

  2. Watch for green checkmarks to appear on a ticket's items. When all items show green checkmarks, every Prep station has finished their items and the order is ready for handoff to the guest.

  3. Review the order and tap Complete to finalize it. This sends the guest their order-ready notification.

ℹ️ You can also tap individual items to check or uncheck them from the In Progress tab. Changes sync across all stations in real time.

If your location uses Expo only (no Prep stations)

  1. When an order comes in, it appears on the In Progress tab.

  2. As each item is prepared, tap the circle next to it to mark it done. A green checkmark appears when an item is complete.

  3. When all items are checked off, tap Complete to finalize the order and notify the guest.

Overdue orders

Orders with a red banner are overdue and need immediate attention.

Correcting a mistake

If an item was marked done by mistake:

1. Find the ticket on the In Progress tab.

2. Tap the green checkmark next to the item to uncheck it.

The ticket updates to indicate it is no longer ready for handoff.

ℹ️ If you have Prep stations, the item reappears at the relevant station with only the unchecked item showing.

Other actions on a ticket

From a ticket on the In Progress tab, you can also:

  • Print a ticket

  • Adjust the prep time

  • Review the order details

  • Add a charge (for orders paid by manual card entry only)
